LÜCID LOVERS Sparkle New Era with Their Animated Cover of “Obsession”
From Cleveland, duo LÜCID LOVERS, with both The High Priestess and The Hierophant at the helm, takes on a daring and exciting cover of "Obsession," giving a fresh take on the 1980s song that was written by Holly Knight and Michael Des Barres and performed by Animotion. With their new version of "Obsession," LÜCID LOVERS didn't just want to pay homage to the original 1980 version; they have expressed an intention for their duo's new creative direction.
In their recording of "Obsession," LÜCID LOVERS purposefully built it to showcase their creative expertise and craft. Instead of using digital processes for their unique music, they chose to produce their recording using an entirely analog process using hardware synthesizers, electric guitar, and raw vocals. The end product is a grittily sensual synthpop song with industrial influence that they, and the song, tapped into the frequency of passion that they have coined as their creative intention.
Utilizing MIDI sequencing to create a filmic density while also remaining true to the song itself, the duo recorded at Audio Alchemy Studios. The end effect is nostalgic yet future-thinking, appealing to Gen X and Millennial fans familiar with the original, and bringing Gen Z along with it through their darkness and glamour.
LÜCID LOVERS' "Obsession" is the first entry into a future EP and live show where the music will be every bit as cosmic as it will be time-capsule authentic.
