Victor V. Gurbo Revitalizes Americana for the 21st Century with “Outrun the Invisible Man (Deluxe Edition)” Album

Brooklyn's own Victor V. Gurbo is back, this time with "Outrun the Invisible Man (Deluxe Edition)," a personal and earnest collection of songs that explores the raw beauty of human emotion through roots-based storytelling. The 12-track album is released through Dreaming & Dancing Music, and may establish Gurbo's position as one of New York's most relevant artists of the contemporary Americana and folk revival. Gurbo's poetic lyricism and bluesy grit offer an album that feels remarkably at once timeless, yet relevant as a witness to resilience, creativity, and connection in isolation.

The original home-recorded concept of "Outrun the Invisible Man (Deluxe Edition)" was begun at a time of great uncertainty with the pandemic in 2020. Gurbo collaborated with multi-instrumentalist and producer Mark Caserta to turn pieces of that uncertainty into art. The new release features six original songs, including such standouts as "Ghost Woman Blues," "Little Molly Moon," and "The Party After you Left," as well as six carefully chosen covers (two exclusive: "Mr. Blue" and "I'm So Tired"). Each song has the warmth and isolation of teddy bear iPhone recordings (Gurbo has said that he recorded every song on the iPhone), antique radios converted into amplification, and handmade guitars (made by Gurbo).

There is something remarkably authentic about this record. Gurbo's stories evoke the early work of Bob Dylan and Woody Guthrie, while his weathered voice includes the depth of modern singer-songwriter folk artists, such as Gregory Alan Isakov. "Moon on a String" has a nostalgic shimmer, while "I Missed You All the Same" aches with quiet heartbreak. The ragged production values allow the emotion to shine through, a reminder that art does not thrive on perfection but on honesty.

In addition to its excellent sound, “Outrun the Invisible Man (Deluxe Edition)" also acts as a kind of time capsule of artistic persistence. As what began as a long-distance experimental collaboration turned into over one hundred recordings, this project has made its way to Carnegie Hall, BAM, and live stages in Austin. Each vinyl pressing and CD edition is numbered, marking the album’s handmade and collectible qualities.

In the current state of a digitally overdosed world, Victor V. Gurbo offers something beautifully human: music that encourages listeners to slow down, consider, and feel. “Outrun the Invisible Man (Deluxe Edition) is an album, yes, but also a beautifully preserved moment in history conveyed through both artistry and soul and through the vibrant spirit of Brooklyn folk music.
