Powerful DIY punk anthem “FUCK YOUR THRONE”, Clare Easdown and Jade Ryan ignite rebellion.

Emerging from the underground streets of Menai, Australia, soaked in fire and compression in their minds, Clare Easdown and Jade Ryan are known collectively as The Cunning Linguists. Their new single “FUCK YOUR THRONE” is much beyond a mere song-it's a call to arms. A punk-laden, brazen, anti-capitalist anthem in red blood and unrepentant energy, the song evokes the sentiments and dissatisfaction of a generation fed up with social anguish and capitalistic domination.

What makes “FUCK YOUR THRONE” so potent is both the message and the writing process. Recorded totally in the back of their car and then completed in their living room on nothing but a laptop and limited equipment, Clare and Jade exemplify punk's true spirit. It was not a project of high-budget studio production; rather, it was unadulterated rebellion molded from authenticity. The lo-fi production gives the track a dirty and raw texture that complements the song's mission. Clare's fierce and empowered voice cuts through the mix with inflammation and bite.

The song pulls no punches. It addresses the growing divide between the rich elite and the working class, which represents concerns for today’s times, where “the rich get richer and the poor get poorer.” Clare and Jade take that anger and create a piece of art and a fiery protest against greed, oppression, and a false sense of power. The lyrics punctuate the metaphorical “throne,” representing privilege and exploitation, as it gives expression to those whose voices have gone unheard.

With roots in punk, archaic icons like Amyl and The Sniffers, Bikini Kill, and the Riot Grrrl movement influence the music of “FUCK YOUR THRONE” yet also expand this genre. It embodies the same untamed feminist spirit and uninhibited energy, both of which stimulated those movements while carving out its own relevance in today’s punk history. Clare's visceral vocal delivery, half snarl, half soul, combines with Jade's jagged guitar tones, creating a conflict between anarchy and human.

Even though “FUCK YOUR THRONE” was produced entirely for free, the intentions put into it also give the sense that it is valueless. This authenticity is what makes it more powerful than any well-produced commercial single. This song is a testament to the record that music is about more than how much it costs to produce; it is really about the message and energy behind it.

Clare and Jade are currently out there performing in and around Sydney’s punk scene at places like MoshPit Bar, Sean and Dolly’s, and Club 77; they are showing what building a movement looks like, one show at a time. “FUCK YOUR THRONE” is clear evidence of a rebellion that continues to be loud and proud about women’s place in music.
