Michellar Explores Love and Resilience with New Single 'Never Say Sorry'
San Francisco’s vibrant music scene has attracted its fair share of artists who navigate the space between individual storytelling and universal feeling. That's where rising songwriter Michellar joins the ranks of the Bay Area musicians addressing moments of openness and strength. Michellar's latest track Never Say Sorry, is a testament to her blossoming confidence as a performer and songwriter, not to mention her first produced music single to mark the first anniversary of releasing fully produced music.
Never Say Sorry is a nuanced meditation on love, loss, and what it's like to search for authenticity in relationships. Michellar shares, "I wrote Never Say Sorry when I was reflecting on all the times I had left relationships and it was clear there was never a sincere love; however, I didn’t want to dwell on regret, I wanted to say that if love is meant to be, it will come back; and if love finds its way back, there are no reasons to say sorry." This is a sentiment that is familiar to the audience, and it is a feeling that we have all had in some shape or form, but trying to articulate that feeling can be difficult.
The song embraces warm, melodic tones that provide a balance of intimacy and subtle production layers. Michellar's vocals are upfront, singing the lyrics with clarity and emotional heft. Thanks to Tobias Wilson's production, the song sounds polished without losing its raw sincerity and honesty, which in the end proves that sometimes less is more when trying to convey a message of love and forgiveness.
Outside of the music, Never Say Sorry also fits Michellar's multidisciplinary vision as an artist. This October, Michellar will debut HIGH FLOW, a show at San Francisco Women Artists Gallery, featuring an exhibition of 15 cover art paintings of Michellar's songs, with QR codes alongside so listeners can listen while viewing. The Art Show exhibits live performance that combines visual art and music to express Michellar's approach to artistic creation in varying media.
Never Say Sorry, in many ways, represents both the continuity and departure from other works. Michellar expresses her commitment to songwriting, her ability to transform life stories into compelling lyricism, and her resolve to never stop creating even after stepping away from music for almost a decade. As Michellar describes it, “When the love is meant to be… love comes back.” With this, Michellar has demonstrated that music, much like love, will always return when it is time.
