The Dead Hearts Deliver a Fierce and Emotional Breakthrough With Plight Goes On Album
Lublin-based metal band The Dead Hearts, with their expected full-length album Plight Goes On, are rapidly becoming one of the most innovative and vibrant voices of Poland in the alternative metal and post-grunge genres. The one-driven project is their twelvetrack journey, which basically charts out their transformation of the band after the 2024 demo, For What May Never Come, and the 2025 single Enslaved (Break This Cycle), both of which were marked by the band’s groundbreaking evolution. This time, piece band goes beyond the limits of the previous work, creating an album fueled by pure emotional expression, deep and crunchy guitar riffs, and storytelling of a highly personal nature.
The Dead Hearts, consisting of Grzegorz Iwańczuk (vocals), Filip Dolecki (guitar), Damian Lipiński (guitar), Mateusz Michna (bass, backing vocals), and Cezary Szypulski (drums), are not shy about their heavy inspiration from such bands as Chevelle, Deftones, Alter Bridge, Linkin Park, Gojira, and Machine Head. However, the album Plight Goes On is proof that the band is not just a sound borrower; rather, they are the sound transformers through the prism of their own experience. Much of the album’s material was created while the band was going through a rough patch: a child’s cancer, the death of a loved one, delicate relationships, fear of death, and childhood traumas. It is these issues that endow the record with the emotional heft that fits perfectly with the title Plight Goes On.
Perhaps the most surprising feature of the album is its home-made production approach. Done totally at home with the use of VST plugins and a simple Behringer microphone, the band has managed to pull off a pretty, deep, and loud sound that is on par with professional studio records. This dirt and the ability to make the most of the resources at hand is a reflection of the band’s attitude: like a mirror, it is honest, unfiltered, and fiercely independent.
The album benefits greatly from its broad range. “Promises” is a track that comes immediately to mind with its shifting between 5/4 and 7/8 time signatures and inclusion of a melancholy piano work that gives contrast and balance to the metallic underpinnings. The song “All The Same” boldly mashes up the idea of structure changes and then trickles down to an epic, widescreen finish. At the same time, “Shining Star” assaults the listener with the power of a bulldozer, terribly loud guitars, a really sledgehammer drumbeat, and a soaring chorus that stays with the listener long after the last note is gone. The Dead Hearts balance on the edge between aggressiveness and melody across their twelve track, hence the album is at the same time cathartic and contemplative. No question that they work well together as a band, and their desire to transform the hurt into music is what gives the album its rare authenticity.
The Dead Hearts have reached the pinnacle of their career with Plight Goes On, a powerful and emotionally motivating metal concept album that explores the struggle while maintaining a fighting spirit. Viewers are able to catch the band live and up close with their explosive energy at the album release in Lublin's Graffiti Club on November 21, 2025. If the album were a smoke signal, then the performance would be on fire, and henceforth, Plight Goes On is the proof that The Dead Hearts are not artists on the rise but rather, they have made it.
