Mike Stewart Theory's Psychedelic Grooves Exceed Room in "It Reaches Us"

Once again, Mike Stewart Theory (MC Mike, aka Mikey2Hats) shares a new single, "It Reaches Us," and it's hot. From Austin, Texas, Mike Stewart Theory includes artists Marcus Praed (Moog synth) and Julio Figueroa (drums), harmonizing on a single that embraces their psychedelic and indietronic identity, adding a fun little twist of 80s soul grooves.

Recorded in Austin, London, and Bad Iburg, "It Reaches Us" embraces a worldwide sound conversation (for real!). We love the floating nature of the synths, the falsetto vocal style (a bit of Pharrell Williams and some early soul bands in the mix). There are a lot of quirks in the song, but it knows exactly what it wants to be. While it feels quite spontaneous, it has quite a bit of magic dust from the first take (as Mike calls it), which comes across as raw energy that makes the track burst from the speakers.

On top of this, we love how the group was able to hit a unique balance of fun, groove, and depth, allowing listeners to dance while contemplating the cosmic undercurrent of the imagination, in what the songs imagine of eclipses and the mystery of starlight. This beautiful duality of joy through movement with contemplation is what we love about the music of Mike Stewart Theory.

As the first single for the upcoming album Mikey2Hats Birthday (scheduled for release October 17th, 2025), “It Reaches Us” kicks off a new era for the band.
