Creatures of the Edge Take the Energy of Drum and Bass to New Places in “The Grand Ah-Whoom”

From the fertile creative ground of Oxnard, California, Creatures of the Edge unleash a daring and uncompromising new single, “The Grand Ah-Whoom.” This bold new track is led by multi-instrumentalist Justin Sanfilippo. As the name suggests, "The Grand Ah-Whoom" takes unexpected directions, unlike anything in the Drum & Bass genre, at times closely resembling rock music, and offers a sense of urgency to the musical energy.

The 'unpredictable' nature of this release is what makes it so fascinating. In fact, in their own words, Sanfilippo and Creatures of the Edge deliberately wanted to imitate an “anti-drop," to surprise the listeners by moving the song's energy in a direction that few people can guess.

"The Grand Ah-Whoom" contains a narrative that spans more than 15 years, with bits and pieces of the song's composition finally coming to life under the Creatures of the Edge moniker. The single was recorded in Sanfilippo's home studio, sounds unlike any other for several reasons: the sound is based on his original handcrafted sound, which involves not using any loops, samples, or other shortcuts. He states every pad, synth, and percussion line is original, layered over the live recorded drums and a 10-year-old Squier guitar sounds. In essence, this free-spirited ballad celebrates a truly organic texture of music that lies somewhere between the throbbing pulse of electronic music and the raw edge of rock music.

Camilo Silva, who mastered "The Grand Ah-Whoom," provides the listener with a journey in sounds. It is perfect for late-night drives or serious listening. The sounds allow the listener to leave genre and rules behind and enter into a great rawness.
