Zachary Mason Launches Cosmic Humor and Groove with “The Funky Martians”

In his newest, most intergalactic offering, Zachary Mason presents a cosmic explosion of humor and funk on "The Funky Martians," the second single from his EP 5…4…3…2…1…. Coming from Guildford, England, this genre-bending artist crafts an absurd space narrative on Mars where unfriendly aliens are not calmed by logic or negotiation, but rather by funky space music. A truly ridiculous concept, complete with wicked musicianship and fun vocal effects that bring each of the characters (martians and all) to life, hilariously.

Played with John Thomasson (Little Big Town) on bass and Nate Barnes (Rose Hill Drive) on drums, "The Funky Martians" is rhythmically tight and also creatively loose.

While the guitars drip with spacey texture, Zachary chooses to use his beat-comedy style narrating vocals that have been altered or pitched in a way that fits with the absurdity of the concept, making the track feel like a short audio drama (in Sci-Fi shape). It is creative, catchy, and unequivocally fun.

Mason has certainly established a distinct presence in the indie world with more than 200 demo tracks and an expanding discography, now with his tenth single. The Funky Martians confirms Mason is a narrative fearless artist combining humour, space rock, and social commentary into a musical odyssey that is funky and unforgettable.
