Creatures EP by Ben Heyworth: A Thoughtful, Soulful Return from Manchester's Melodic Craftsman

After a long hiatus, Manchester’s own Ben Heyworth returns with Creatures, a striking three-track EP that reintroduces him as a deeply reflective and mature songwriter. Known for his work with Minorplanet and his electronic releases as This Morning Call, Heyworth now leans into an urban folk style that blends acoustic storytelling with textured instrumentation and warm, soulful vocals.

The Creatures EP is rooted in Manchester’s history and personality. “Narrowboat” gently explores life and death along the city’s iconic canals, carrying a quiet emotional weight beneath its delicate arrangement. “Image of Roads” takes a dreamlike detour through a fictional American road trip, raising questions of reality and memory. At the same time, “Creature Double Feature” turns inward, examining the strange reflections of identity and perception.

Recorded at the esteemed Blueprint Studios, home of Elbow, Creatures feels rich yet intimate. Heyworth’s sound pulls from the nostalgic '90s indie palette of artists like Damon Albarn and Crowded House, but with his distinctive edge, filthy organ flourishes, layered harmonies, and lyrical depth.

Creatures is not just a comeback; it’s a reawakening. Honest, melodic, and undeniably personal, Ben Heyworth’s latest work marks a meaningful new chapter.
