"Threats" EP by BELLHEAD: A Potent Evolution In Sound and Style

BELLHEAD is back, and they're back with a visceral forcefulness with their newest EP, "Threats." Based in Chicago, some have called the duo's burgeoning post-punk sound industrial, while others have tagged it as dark alternative. No matter the genre, this release solidifies them as one of the fiercest underground acts of 2025. The original EP features five new original songs and two addictive remixes. It marks a sleeker shift in the band's unmistakable and ever-evolving sound, even compared to their most recent offering, the 2023 release Good Intentions. This EP advances with bolder and darker intensity both in overall sonic textures and thematic aspirations.

Upon listening to the EP's titular introductory track, "Threats," we are thrust into a gritty experience of heartbreak, revenge, and psychological discontent that is jagged, unafraid, and meshed together from various genres. Songs like "HeartShapedHole" and "Shutters+Stutters" are rife with emotional vulnerability, while "NoDeadHorses" and "DoubleJeopardy" burn with the band's lyrical viciousness and nihilistic poetry that has transformed into creative catharsis.

The EP's two remixes augment this hypnotic experience. One, from Stabbing Westward's Chris Hall, injects "BadTaste" with firepower and club-ready venom. The other stands as a distorted trance by Clubdrugs, creating a demented dreamscape out of "HeartShapedHole."

Remarkably, BELLHEAD has abandoned their monochromatic palette to embrace an eye-popping yellow color scheme and an unfiltered aesthetic to grow as artists, land a permanent punch of enthusiasm to work within, and frankly, represent a half-baked new artist identity altogether. Recorded by Neil Strauch, mastered by Carl Saff, "Threats" is both polished and raw, an exhilarating new chapter in BELLHEAD'S ongoing legacy.
