Zachary Mason Examines the Duality of Love in New Single "Madness Gladness"

Guildford-based artist Zachary Mason unveils an emotional dream-pop nugget with "Madness Gladness." Originally recorded in 2021, written and recorded over a multitude of recording sessions. It features a lush, reverberated soundscape that allows listeners to escape into a personal, soft-thinking realm.

"Madness Gladness" captures a gut-wrenching moment for a fictional character who is taken aback by the disorienting mess and bliss that love can force upon us. Although Zachary previously teased a shift to heavier rock sounds, this track comfortably shifts into softer spaces - influenced by elements of dream pop paired with touches of folk rock and soft rock. With regards to production, the ethereal layers are enlivened with Nate Barnes dynamic drumming and John Thomasson's slick bass-lines. Derrick Lin's mixing and mastering from Hong Kong gives a zesty touch to the final product.

While "Madness Gladness" is slightly delicate, it maintains an honest emotional nucleus at its centre. With thoughtful lyricism and a gentle vocal tone, Zachary gives us a reminder of why he continues to grow an international audience.

Already his ninth single, perhaps it also marks Zachary's growing artistic evolution grossly showing us that with vulnerability, comes power.
